3 Mistakes You Should Never Make In A Team Environment
There is something special about being in a team environment.
Whether you're talking about an athletic team, a family, or a church environment… There's something special about multiple people moving toward the same vision.
With that said, sometimes people abuse this privilege.
There are certain things that happen that destroy team morale, undercut the vision, and makes it really hard for people to show up for their team.
Below are 3 mistakes that you should never make in a team environment:
#3: Complaining Against The King 👑 (Head Coach)
Whether he is evil or whether he is virtuous, everyone will see it publicly. There is no need for you to go on and on about how terrible your coach is.
While you are on that team, it is your job to be the best teammate you can be underneath your coach’s leadership.
We have all played for bad coaches, or have been under bad leadership. Ironically, these are some of the best opportunities to grow as a leader!
What complainers don’t understand is that nearly ALL of their words will get recycled back to the coach! This almost never fails. There is even a Bible verse that warns us about this in Ecclesiastes 10:20:
“Do not curse the king even in your thought. Do not curse the rich even in your bedroom, for a bird of the air may carry your voice, and a bird in flight may tell the matter.”
#2: Separating The Brotherhood 🗡️
Never use your power to separate the squad, but use it to unite the troops. If you are a person of influence on your team, this especially applies to you. If you don’t have big voice on your team, this applies equally to you as well!
When you use your tongue to divide and not edify (build up), you are on rocky ground, and I suggest you stop.
Bill Parcels, in his Hall Of Fame Speech quoted, "Losers assemble in little groups and complain about the coaches and the players in other little groups. Winners assemble as a team”.
The Bible tells us, “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men” (Romans 12:18)
#1: Betray Confidentiality 😡
If you are on a team, you AUTOMATICALLY have a responsibility: protect the team. You’ve likely heard the phrase, “What is said in the locker room stays in the locker room.”

Trust Is Hard To Build…Easy To Destroy
It is not my business to tell your business. The quickest path to trust is to remember this principle. Conversely, the quickest path to betrayal is to violate it. Don’t do it.
These are 3 Mistakes you should NEVER make in a team environment.
